In Memory Giving
Supporters of People First and/or their families sometimes choose to help People First by requesting that donations be made to us at their funeral in their memory in lieu of flowers.
There are several different ways in which a memoriam donation can be made; simply choose whichever method is easiest for you. Donate in Memory:
- Via Cheque;
- If you or a loved one would like to donate to People First in memory of someone then please do not hesitate to contact us, and we can provide collection boxes if required.

Gifts/Bequests in Wills
Leaving a gift/bequest in a will is a valuable way to support the work that we do and ensure that we can continue to support and empower local people.
How Do I Leave a Gift/Bequest to People First Independent Advocacy?
A valid will is the only way to ensure that your wishes are carried out after death. People First highly recommend seeking legal advice in relation to writing your will to ensure that any legacy gifts/bequests are dealt with appropriately and in accordance with your wishes.
You will need at least one executor, someone you appoint to make sure that your wishes are carried out and your estate is administered properly. Two witnesses are also needed in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and one in Scotland.
If you include People First in your will, please write to us and let us know and, if possible, let us know who the executor will be.
We are grateful for gifts of any size, large and small! Gifts/bequests can be:
- Residuary – Whole or a Percentage of your estate
“I give to People First Independent Advocacy of 4-8 Oxford Street, Workington, CA14 2AH, registered company no 5438407 all (or an x% share of) the residue of my estate, for the general charitable purposes of the company and I declare that the receipt of the Finance Director or other proper officer of People First shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my Trustees”
- Pecuniary – Fixed sum of money
“I give to People First Independent Advocacy of 4-8 Oxford Street, Workington, CA14 2AH, registered company no 5438407, the sum of £….. free of all tax (repeat amount in words) for the general charitable purpose of the company and I declare that the receipt of the Finance Director or other proper officer shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my Trustees”
- Specific – You can leave a specific item to People First (e.g. furniture, picture etc)
We realise that making a will is a private affair but if you wish to inform us of your intentions we can thank you and keep you updated on how your intended gift can help support the work of People First in the future.
It also gives us the chance to invite you to our events, meetings and groups to see how your gift will help.
When including People First in your will it is important to ensure that the correct details are entered to avoid confusion – or another charity receiving your bequest.
