I became a director of People First after the Healthwatch contract was awarded. I provide the link between the two committees.
As well as chairing Healthwatch Cumbria Helen also sits on the Healthwatch England committee. This gives her both a local and National perspective on health and social care issues.
Helen’s background is in education. Since taking early retirement she spent eight years as a County Councillor, sitting on several Scrutiny Committees. This gave her a sound knowledge of the structures and procedures of political life. Helen was also a Non Executive Director on the Board of North Cumbria Primary Care Trust where she chaired the Patient Advice and Liaison Service steering group as well as the Patient and Public Involvement Steering group.
Helen has, for many years, been a volunteer with a variety of organisations. Her experience of governance is wide and varied. She is a member and past president of Soroptimist International, a global voice working to advance human rights and the status of women: she was Vice Chair of Cumbria CVS and she also chaired Cumbria Alcohol and Drug Advisory Service for a short while. Her governance experience also includes being involved with many schools across the age range.
