I was born in London within the sound of Bow bells (if they could still be heard) and moved to Carlisle in 1968 with my family. I left school in 1974 and joined Tesco as a management trainee. I worked in various locations across the U.K with other leading retailers in varying management positions, before joining Penrith co-operative society in 1990 progressing to chief executive officer with a workforce of over 200 employees and a membership of over 20,000. I was actively involved in the Eden business community, holding the post of President of the Penrith Chamber of Commerce, and as a Trustee of Eden Community Alarms. I retired in 2014 having successfully merged the society with a stronger partner.
I have been married for 38 years and have a daughter. I enjoy travelling having visited many exciting and interesting places, especially Borneo where we got to help the Orangutan orphanage in their work. I am very aware of the effects we have on our environment and eager to adopt environmentally friendly practices and solutions. I am a great believer in equality and get great pleasure in seeing someone achieve their goals with a little help from me.
I joined Peoplefirst in 2016 as I have a desire to use what skills I have gathered in general management working with people over the years to benefit others and I aim to aid the management team in their efforts to improve the lives of our members and clients, and to get Peoplefirst to be self sufficient and to be recognised as the number one provider of advocacy and support in Cumbria.
