I am an Independent Advocate working on NHS Complaints. I have worked in NHS Complaints advocacy for just over two years and I have been with People First since August 2012.
My main role is to provide support to people who are making formal complaints about treatment or care provided by the NHS. We are a client led service so the range of our involvement with individual clients varies greatly.
Amongst other things I help people to draft their letters of complaint, support people at meetings with the NHS to discuss their complaints and where clients refer matters to the Health Services Ombudsman our service assists with drafting forms etc. In addition I also provide information and guidance about the NHS complaints process itself and signpost to other sources of support (e.g. solicitors etc) where appropriate.
